The results of a performance audit for the city of Napoleon have been released by the state of Ohio.  After spending about $76,000 for a performance audit of city services, the Ohio Auditor’s office has determine there could be savings of nearly $648,000 annually in Napoleon if the recommended changes were made.   Although that figure represents a sizeable amount of savings; it’s much less than many governmental entities found in their reports.   Cities and schools around the state reported they had over 1 million dollars in savings cited by the state auditor’s office.

Some of the bigger ticket recommendations from the performance audit for Napoleon included these areas:

Outsourcing dispatch at the police department, to the local sheriff’s department would save about $335,000 each year.

Reducing the dispatch staff at the police department by 2 would save an additional $91,000 annually.

Discontinuing operation of the municipal golf course in Napoleon would save $77,000 each year.

Another $50,000-plus would be saved by outsourcing all or a portion of the income tax operations for the city.

And outsourcing the management of the swimming pool and cemetery mowing, burial and maintenance would save another $71,800 annually.

A number of other recommendations for savings in Napoleon pertained to the zoning department, collective bargaining agreements, and reductions in recreation programs that do not generate funds.

Napoleon city council will be discussing these recommendations in the months ahead; and likely looking for input from the public before making any moves.
