Rates for water and sewer service in the village of Liberty Center could be going up in the near future. Liberty Center council approved the first of three readings to bump-up those utility bills, during their Tuesday night meeting. An increase in water rates from Napoleon to Liberty Center; and a debt payment for the sewer pump station are causing increased costs, and leading to the proposal hike in utility bills for Liberty Center residents. The base rate would increase per month from $35.84 to $43.70, with the storm sewer fee added in.
Liberty Center Council also approved a payment of $214,000 to payoff the remaining debt on the waterline from Napoleon to Liberty Center, which had 8 years to go. This will save over $30,000 in interest costs. The interest for the pump station debt is much lower than the waterline interest.
And a third and final reading was approved on changes to the permanent improvement fund. The legislation would expand the areas of use for that fund. The next meeting of the Fall Festival Committee is set for Tuesday, April 23rd, with discussion on the 150th birthday of the Liberty Center village.
