The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes touched-down in Henry County in the Wednesday night storm. One was an F-1 tornado with winds of 95 miles per hour that destroyed some barns. Two of the others were F-0 tornadoes, with winds in the 85 mile per hour range. Another tornado was confirmed in Custar in Wood County.
Henry County Auditor Kevin Garringer reminds property owners, their office provides inspection service free for buildings that might have been damaged or destroyed by the recent severe weather. Filing with the county auditor’s office for this free inspection could save property owners up to 75% of the structure’s tax value.
To receive this reduction on damages this year, the property owner must file a destroyed property form in Auditor Garringer’s office by the end of the day on December 31st of this year. An appraiser from the office will inspect the damage and report the findings to the auditor.
This inspection program is also available for damage caused by other natural forces such as fires, earthquakes, flooding, tornadoes, and wind storms. The time of the year the damage occurred will determine the tax break allowed.
