During a special meeting this (Wed.) morning; the Napoleon Area School Board of Education has approved a resolution in reaching a settlement for the purchase of land that will be the site of a new elementary school for the district. That property is a 52.3 acre parcel owned by the Groves family, with a purchase price of $787,724. That amounts to about $14,000 per acre.
The land is located just west of the football stadium and bus maintenance facility for Napoleon schools, on the west side of Westmoreland avenue. The Napoleon board had tried to purchase the land outright; but negotiations bogged down. That led to the district filing for eminent domain, to secure the property through the Henry County common pleas court. The judge in the matter ordered mediations between the two sides; and that led to the final agreement. The elementary facility will house grades pre-school through 6th grade.
