A long-time source of revenue for most counties has been dried-up for years now, after interest rates fell in the financial market collapse. Henry County Commissioners use to be able to count on significant income from deposits of local residents’ tax dollars, while waiting to pay their bills over the year. But that current interest rate of about a half-percent is barely producing a trickle of income these days. Henry County Treasurer Calvin Spiess reported to the board that interest rates for the past quarter remained unchanged. The county is required to invest those funds in highly secure accounts, which produce lower interest rates.
The Henry County Commissioners approved the final payment to Gerken Paving for this year’s resurfacing program, at about $521,000.
And the board accepted the employee handbook created for the Henry County Family Court, and issued by Judge Denise McColley for her staff.
Commissioners went into executive session to discuss personnel matters; but no action was taken.
